Two More Weeks to Visit WEFM

Dec 3, 2015 in Updates

Two more weeks! December 13th is the last day for our 2015 market season. Dress for the season and take the opportunity to shop with your favorite farmers and vendors while you still can.

The Man Behind The Radish
Our beloved West End Farmers Market radish was created by local artist (and foodie) Brian Howlett. With tubes of watercolor paint, brushes and paper in hand, Brian painted portraits of the fruits and vegetables in his own garden. He captured a season’s bounty of veggies and fruit ranging from radishes, lettuces & beets to persimmons and pomegranates. The entire body of work is called, “Grow & Glean”. Have you seen those amazing photographs from our market? Those are also courtesy of Brian’s expertise with a camera.

The Bubble Guy!
A very special part of WEFM is a visit from the “Bubble Guy”. Dressed in a white lab coat, “Professor Ron” of Bubble Science 1010, shares the joy of giant bubbles with children and adults. He has created a non-toxic recipe and wands to create gigantic, beautiful bubbles. The bubble formula and wands are available for purchase and proceeds are used to purchase cans of Pork & Beans and hand-delivered to our local food pantries but you can also find directions for the formula on Bubble Science 101’s website. Professor Ron has a B.A. in Math with a minor in Physics from Berkeley. After graduating, he was appointed lead mathematician at the fledgling USAF Space Command. While there, he received a M.A. in Neuropsychology with postgraduate work at Duke University and the University of New England (Aust.). After a career in pharmaceutical and industrial research, Ron taught Computer Science at Chesapeake College before retiring…. But to many of us he is the amazing and wonderful Bubble Guy.
