West End Labor Day Weekend- Farmers Market

Aug 29, 2014 in Updates

Labor Day is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. Help honor those who work to make the WEFM a reality. Beautiful weather in the forecast- will be an amazing day to spend relaxing with friends and family at W. E. F. M.

Oko Loco- Japanese Savory Pancakes, California Style! Oko Loco pancakes are loaded with fresh vegetables like napa cabbage, carrots, kale, potatoes, broccoli slaw and onions. They’re held together with gluten-free batter based in either a dashi or vegan broth and then grilled to a golden crunch with tender insides. Oko Loco swirls on their two secret sauces and sprinkles fresh green garnish to complete the picture-perfect plate. You can ask for a bacon avocado or fried egg add-ons to kick it up a notch. You can also try their “NEW” Umami Crepes: a savory mix of chard, onions, goat cheese, garlic chives rolled in our Loco batter crepes, garnished with habanero mayo, herbs and arugula. Always Gluten-Free at Oko Loco.

Foggy River is a small, sustainable, third-generation family farm just outside of Healdsburg. They grow a diverse range of veggies, from “All Blue” Potatoes to “Green Zebra” Tomatoes. Although they are not certified organic, they use no synthetic fertilizers, pesticide or herbicides. Everything that goes into the fields is all natural–from alfalfa meal and oyster shell to well-aged compost and they grow as many heirloom varieties as possible. Visit Foggy River this Sunday to appreciate their summer crops such as Tomatoes (heirloom varieties), Peppers (various colors, sweet and spicy), Summer squash, Cucumbers (Armenian, Lemon), Melons (Canteloupe, Honeydew, Crane, Watermelon) and Summer beans (Blue Lake, Rattlesnake, Yellow snap).

In season now! Rattlesnake & Kentucky Wonder pole beans at Foggy River Farm

Goodman’s Jewish Deli- a Jewish deli in downtown Santa Rosa. This Sunday enjoy traditional kosher style deli food such as Corned Beef, Pastrami on Rye, Schmaltz fries, matzoh ball soup and Chocolate Babka (Yeasted cake with chocolate- yum!). The menu changes and there are weekly specials like Babka Pain Perdue French toast topped with Vanilla bean whip. Try a frosty chocolate egg cream or celery soda. Make it a goal to try their Meshugah Fries- fries fried in schmaltz, covered in Russian dressing, sauerkraut, cheese curds and bits of pastrami. Ba-Tampte! (Means “Tasty”).
